Welcome & FAQs
Hello, and Welcome to Line Dancing with Lauren! We are so happy that you are here. Here is a list of FAQs about Line Dancing, and our classes:
Q. What is Line Dancing?
A. Line Dancing is a sequence of dance steps, typically 32 counts, repeated numerous times for the entire length of a song. Line Dancing is a popular social activity all over the world, and is often seen at pubs/bars, festivals, and private events, including birthday parties, anniversaries, wedding receptions and fundraisers.
Q. How do people know the dance steps that go with a particular song?
A. Line dances are learned in a variety of ways: in a dance class, at a pub or a private party, from a video, or by reading a stepsheet, which is the written format used by choreographers to document their work. Most people learn line dances at bars, classes, or parties. Music has a powerful impact on memory, so once you’ve learned a line dance, hearing the song will trigger your memory of the steps and your feet will start moving!
Q. About the music… is it always country music?
A. It is NOT always country music! The music can be pop, rock, punk, hip-hop, R&B, oldies, show tunes, or it can be traditional country music… or NON-traditional country music, such as country-rap or “hick-hop.” There’s a lot of variety in the music used for line dancing!
Q. What if I have two left feet? What if I have never taken a dance class?
A. That’s okay! Most people have had experience with choreographed movement and muscle memory in some way, at some point. That martial arts class you took as a child? The way you tap out the rhythm of your favorite song while you’re driving? Physical therapy? All of these activities reinforce the connection between your mind and your body. Learning to line dance builds on that connection. And even if you can’t remember doing a single choreographed movement in your life, you can learn to line dance, and we will help you!
Q. How much do classes cost?
A. A six-week session of beginner classes (recommended, for scaffolding learning and best value) is $99, which breaks down to $16.50 per class. If you prefer to purchase one class at a time, you may use the drop-in option of $20 per class. Be sure to arrive 15 minutes early if you plan to use the drop-in option, and text us in advance if you can, so that we know to expect you.
Q. If I miss a pre-paid class, can I take a make-up class?
A. In Rancho Santa Margarita, YES, because we offer both Monday and Thursday classes, so you may do a make-up class by attending the same level class offered on a different night, as long as you do so before the end of the six-week session in which you missed a class. Even if you don’t attend a make-up class, we typically review the previous week’s dances in each class, and you will always have access to our Google Drive where we share links to YouTube videos of the dances that were taught in each class.
In Issaquah, we offer classes on Monday evenings only for now (but we are growing!), so we are unable to provide a make-up option in Issaquah at this time, but we typically review the previous week’s dances in each class, and you will always have access to our Google Drive where we share links to YouTube videos of the dances that were taught in each class.
Feel free to text us at (949) 236-7773 if you have any questions about the make-up policy.
